Description
Wine of Australia
Josef Chromy settled in the Tamar Valley over 40 years ago and quickly established himself as a producer of exceptional quality. Tasmania at this time was very much the hidden gem of Australia, and it has now established itself as a region of excellent quality. Roaring Beach is no different. A local secret, with a rugged coastline and some of the cleanest rainfall and air in the world. This crisp, cool climate Chardonnay displays white melon and ripe citrus fruit flavours with briny, mineral complexity that open to a generous and textural palate with fresh fruit characters balanced by refreshing natural acidity.

History: Josef Chromy has been one of the most influential figures in the Tasmanian food and wine community. Arriving as a penniless Czech refugee after WWII, he built a successful small goods business before embarking on a second career as a vigneron. He has developed some of Tasmania's most iconic wine brands before, at the age of 76, putting all his experience and knowledge into his eponymous winery.
Regional information: Southernmost and coolest wine region of Australia. Tasmania is an island and hence the environment is moderated by the surrounding ocean, giving a temperate maritime climate. Roaring Beach is a 900 m long beach on the western side of the Tasman Peninsula. Southwest-facing, with a dangerous rip and cold waters touched by the Southern Ocean, the coast is wild, rugged and beautiful and popular with local surfers.
Vinification: Hand picked Chardonnay grapes are whole bunched pressed and the juice is transferred to stainless steel tank.
